Dining Room Before Staging

The dining room is just off the foyer and opposite of the den, so I wanted to tie the two rooms together. We painted the ceiling Kendall Charcoal by Benjamin Moore to match the den paint color, and also installed matching wall moulding to mirror the moulding in the den. We installed shiplap on the ceiling just to give it some more character. We finished the space with a large chandelier and centered it in the room - perfect for over a dining table!

With the wall moldings, shiplap ceiling, and some matching paint colors, we were able to tie the den, foyer, and kitchen together with the dining room, while still keeping each a separate and distinct space.

One thing we thought about doing was widening the doorway between the kitchen and the dining room to generate more of an open flor plan, but in the end we decided against it because we felt it just wasn’t going to have enough impact to achieve the result we thought it might. With the layout of the kitchen and traffic patterns, it made more sense to maximize the wall space in the kitchen and keep the doorway at it’s current width.
